Would you vote for the creation of an Independent Ethics Commission to provide oversight of the executive and legislative branches of government in New Mexico? I would vote for the creation of an independent ethics commission to provide oversight to the executive and legislative branches of government. The creation of an independent commission with rulemaking and investigation authority could build back public trust and provide a one-stop entity for the public to report concerns.

What measures would you take to make New Mexico state government transparent, accessible and accountable to the public? I have fought for years to make government more transparent. I would update the Public Records Act and strengthen the State Rules Act. NM is the only state that does not have consistent rule making laws. That makes it more difficult for those impacted to have their voices heard.

Would you give permission to the Legislative Council Service to make publicly available the final amounts you personally allocate to various capital outlay projects? Absolutely. I would also work to amend the law that allows legislative records to be confidential for 75 years, This is longer than any other public record. These records should be open to the public immediately following the legislative session.

If you think reform of the capital outlay system is needed, how would you reform it? If you don't think reform is needed, give us your reasons. I would reform the capital outlay system. To projects are partially funded, which costs thousands of extra dollars in administrative and contract expenses. I support the creation of a bipartisan committee with regional representation that would prioritize and then fully fund projects to ensure the most efficient use of funds.

Does New Mexico need to invest more in early childhood development? If you think it does, in your opinion what is the best way to invest? If you don't think New Mexico needs to invest more, tell us why. As a former Head Start teacher, I understand the benefits of early learning. I support expanding Pre-k. I also believe pre-k should be a full-day program. Half day is difficult for parents and caregivers. I support increasing the distribution from the permanent fund to expand early learning.

What measures would you take to improve the state's long-term economy? Economic development is similar to tourism; we must invest to realize a return. The Interim Jobs Council recommendations should serve as the road map. I support raising the minimum wage, sufficiently funding quality childcare and investing in broadband infrastructure.

Would you support the legalization of cannabis for adult recreational use in New Mexico? Why or why not? I would support the legalization of marijuana. There is no reason to continue incarcerating people for possession or use of marijuana and the state would realize an increase in revenue on an item that is currently bought and sold outside of consumption taxes.
