Would you vote for the creation of an Independent Ethics Commission to provide oversight of the executive and legislative branches of government in New Mexico? I would support the creation of an Independent Ethics Commission. We have seen too many ethical problems within our government and we cannot rely on our elected officials to always objectively rule on these issues. An independent commission would be the best way to remove politics from these issues.

What measures would you take to make New Mexico state government transparent, accessible and accountable to the public? As a State Representative, my door would be open to all people interested in the work I would be doing. I will hold regular meetings with my constituents to illicit feedback and listen to concerns. I will also reach out to constituents using various forms of communications.

Would you give permission to the Legislative Council Service to make publicly available the final amounts you personally allocate to various capital outlay projects? Yes. I would give permission to LCS to make this information available to the public. All spending that government does should be open to the public and capital outlay is no different. For people to have trust in our government, we must be transparent in how we do business.

If you think reform of the capital outlay system is needed, how would you reform it? If you don't think reform is needed, give us your reasons. I do believe reform is needed. If public money is needed on a project then it should be open to public scrutiny. I would include all capital outlay in the budget, including individual legislative requests.

Does New Mexico need to invest more in early childhood development? If you think it does, in your opinion what is the best way to invest? If you don't think New Mexico needs to invest more, tell us why. Yes. We must invest more resources in early childhood development and education. A good way to start would be to tap our Land Grant Permanent Fund to immediately address the situation. This would be one of the smartest investments we could make using this fund.

What measures would you take to improve the state's long-term economy? I would start by investing in essential infrastructure projects which would create jobs. We need to do everything we can to develop alternative energy production and become a leader in the nation. I would look at increasing trade with Mexico and Central America by developing an inland port.

Would you support the legalization of cannabis for adult recreational use in New Mexico? Why or why not? Yes. I would support this initiative. We have seen the revenue generated in other states that have legalized cannabis. Our economy has become too reliant on volatile revenue projections from our natural resources. We must look to diversify if we are to grow as a state.
