Message type: mailer
Message tone: negative
About the message: This flier from GOAL WestPAC accuses former Democratic Rep. Liz Thomson of voting to give herself a pension (she's a former public school employee) at the expense of raises for other teachers. Like a similar Advance New Mexico Now mailer, this one doesn't cite a specific bill or amendment that would have increased educator pensions at the cost of teacher salaries.
About the messenger: GOAL WestPAC is a federal super PAC, which may take unlimited contributions to pay for independent spending that isn't coordinated with candidates or political parties. The PAC is based in Texas and its treasurer is Philip Pearce, brother of New Mexico U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, a Republican. But much of the group's money comes from New Mexico.
The messenger's money: Big donors include Mack Energy, Strata Production, Strata's president, Mark Murphy, Nancy Brantley and others from eastern New Mexico.
