Message type: mailer
Message tone: negative
About the message: This mailer from Patriot Majority New Mexico refers to GOP House candidate Christina Hall's "Republican bosses" in trying to tie her to a failure to get more police on the streets. It refers to a failed amendment to freeze corporate tax breaks and use the money to train and hire police officers. The bill, House Bill 171, would have allowed law enforcement agencies to rehire retirees under some circumstances. Supported by Republicans and opposed by Democrats in the House, the bill died in the Senate. Hall and former Democratic Rep. Liz Thomson are competing for the open seat in House District 24.
About the messenger: Patriot Majority New Mexico is a super PAC that takes unlimited contributions and makes independent expenditures that aren's supposed to be coordinated with candidates or political parties. The group is an off-shoot of a national super PAC.
The messenger's money: In New Mexico, the group has received money from various labor unions and, most recently, from Everytown for Gun Safety, a group that advocates for stronger gun laws.
