Message type: mailer
Message tone: negative
About the message: This flier attacks Democrat Julie Vargas, who is challenging Appeals Court Judge Stephen French, a Republican. It says she is "bankrolled by trial lawyers," though the primary source of money for judicial races is the state public finance fund. Both Vargas and French received the bulk of their money from the state fund. Vargas received many small donations from others, while French provided his own seed money. The mailer also says Vargas is a member of a "liberal special interest group." That group, Emerge New Mexico, encourages Democratic women to run for public office.
About the messenger: Justice First NM filed as a new political action committee on Sept. 21. The PAC's filing says is an "Independent expenditure committee intended to make direct and in-kind contributions and generate communications to support candidates for elected office in New Mexico statewide races." The group will make it's first campaign finance filing on Thursday.
